I have been away a fair bit lately, on holiday and other travels. Autumn has hardly existed, with October and November being two of the mildest Autumn months on record. December will be heralding more normal "winter" weather from this week but nothing that dramatic, except perhaps for the North.
A large number of wintering birds have arrived in the UK and there has been an especially large influx of Short Eared Owls from Northern Europe. This is in part due to the successful breeding season they have had there where there was an eruption in the Vole population, their main food source.
I managed to get a few shots of them flying over the rough grass at Wallasea Island, a nearby RSPB project, which is restoring part of the Essex coast to its former glory.
There have also been a lot of the "Fairy Tale" looking Fly agaric fungi about.
@ I managed to get a few shots of them flying over the rough grass but how ? naturally ? in the daylight ? beautiful shots in flying have you seen http://www.dogwork.com/owfo8/
A bit better than mine! Short Eared Owls are one of the owls that do come out in the day time, although usually near dawn and sunset. The sun was setting but still enough light to get the shots.
Thanks for your comments again – what is your actual first name?
ah I’m impressed! your photos are very neat , clear and it’s not like a movie with a tamed owl
Catse 😆
Ok, it was the small letter at the start that fooled me!

Thank you for the compliments Lois.
