New Forest and surrounding area.

Always a nice place to visit and I managed to wangle a visit in the good weather whilst collecting and returning my Mother-in-Law from her home in Christchurch which is on the edge of the Forest. Managed to catch a couple of nice shots but missed the rare birds that were apparently around.

  1. except Nuthatch I don’t see often the nonnette (Poecile palustris) , And never the Stonechat , or I mistook with the Rouge Queue(Phoenicurus) ? your photo of the Marsh Tit is very sweet and the Stonechat is like a plush but two are took with flash ?

  2. Hi Catse. The Marsh Tit is quite rare here also. Stonechat very common. Redstart (Rouge Queue)is larger and thinner and is found here mainly in old woodland with rotten trees. The Stonechat is a bird of open scrub, gorse and heathland. The Marsh Tit was taken with fill-in flash with a diffuser but the Stonechat just very bright sunshine. How did you know I used flash with the Marsh Tit?Your English is very good but I don’t understand phrase “like a plush”?Dave

  3. thank you , but my english is … special 😀 like a plush : I take it on “wordreference” .Maybe like stuffed toy …you ask me how I know for flash , right ? a set : the harmony in the light, the reflection in the eye very distinct, the background and sharpness …

  4. “plush” = luxurious; expensive, comfortable and of high quality – usually reference to furniture like a couch. We stayed with some friends in Bordeaux and after dinner my wife said “Je suis plein” instead of “J’ai assez mange” !C’est la vie!

  5. your wife had not say a wrong thing ! in french we can say “je suis plein ” if you have ate much food ! especially at Bordeaux with the wines 😆 plush it’s not this explanation is like sensation when you touch a teddy bear

  6. Really! They all laughed and said en Francais it means “a pregnant cow” !I still have my teddy bear – since I was three years old. It is definitely not plush but still well loved 😉

  7. Very nice shot of the marsh tit. I’ve seen them a few times on the UEA campus but am yet to get a reasonable photo.
