During a week's golfing break in Devon and Somerset I managed to spend a day with my friend Nigel who took me to some beautiful local places where I might see some birds that are absent from my native Essex. We were very lucky and managed to see the two main birds I was hoping to see namely the Dipper and the Pied Flycatcher both in the beautiful Horner Woods National Nature Reserve. The light was poor so photography was tricky but I managed a couple of shots.
The Dipper feeds on invertebrates from under the surface and it even swims under water for some of the time. In the second picture you can see its white eyelids and it also has another transparent eyelid so that it can see underwater with it closed.
that second pic is nicely rendered!
They needed it!
very interresting , I have seen it from afar never so close
